Merger FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How will the merger impact me as a customer?

We are working toward a seamless transition. Until full conversion of all banking systems, you will see minimal changes to your day-to-day banking. Beginning January 1, 2017 when applying for a new account, loan, debit card or other accounts and services, you will be presented Security Bank of Kansas City products. Otherwise, your checks, debit cards, online banking login, bill pay, ACH debits and direct deposit will continue to work as usual.

Why did the BancAbility Banks merge?

The merger was intended to make it easier for you, our valued account holder, to identify our 44 branches and network of 47 ATMs by operating under one common name, Security Bank of Kansas City.

  • The move also gives us greater ability to better utilize our vast resources and talent to be agile and move quickly to continue to grow.
  • We can eliminate the cumbersome process of introducing new and updated programs, products and services across seven bank brands.
  • This allows us to take advantage of the economies of scale in purchasing and acquiring new products and services to be more cost effective in delivering them to account holders.
  • One brand will make it easier for our bank to be marketed to the public.
  • We will continue a strong local presence in the communities that we serve.
  • The same great people will continue to serve your needs.
  • Individual bank presidents will remain as executive officers at their current bank locations to maintain the community bank spirit.

What if I have deposits at multiple BancAbility banks? How will that work?

If you have deposits at multiple BancAbility banks, you will still have multiple accounts. As a result of the merger, your account(s) will automatically become accounts at Security Bank of Kansas City.

As you may be aware, FDIC insurance generally covers a depositor’s account at each bank up to $250,000.

If the combined balance of your deposits is less than $250,000, you have nothing to worry about. Your money will be fully insured.  Even if your combined total exceeds $250,000, you can still breathe easy. The FDIC has a special rule that says when two banks merge, a customer’s deposits will be considered to be separately insured for six months from the merger date.

If you have a CD, the FDIC allows the separate deposit insurance coverage to continue until the CD matures, so you can avoid penalties for early withdrawal.

A tool for calculating FDIC insurance is available at: https://www.fdic.gov/edie/calculator.html

Will I still be able to use the checks from my former BancAbility bank checks or will I receive new ones?

You may continue to use your existing checks.

Fees for deposit accounts may change, however, some of them may be less. Our current fee schedule is available here.
